How medical weight care works in Australia
From enquiry to call-back, telehealth consult, possible tests and follow-up: how medical weight care works in Australia, when to see your GP first, and why the doctor decides. A consult does not guarantee any prescription.
$99 doctor consult
$99 doctor consult — the fee for a consultation with a registered doctor only. Any treatment, tests or medicines are separate and decided by the doctor.
How do I enquire about seeing a doctor?
Weight Doctor Match is an independent Australian information and enquiry website, not a clinic. The process begins with your choice to ask a partner clinic to contact you. Reading this site or completing an enquiry does not establish whether any treatment is appropriate. The clinical discussion happens with a registered doctor, and the appointment arrangements are made with the clinic.
1. Send an enquiry if you choose
Read the information about costs and consider who an assessment is for before using the form. The form collects contact details and a non-clinical enquiry topic, rather than weight, medical history or symptoms. Confirm that you are 18 or older and read the privacy collection notice. Sharing consent is required and starts unticked; only submit if you agree to your details being passed to the referral partner.
2. The partner clinic calls you back
The enquiry is passed to one partner clinic. Its team can call you back about an assessment, explain the service and discuss practical arrangements. This is the time to ask about appointment format, availability, fees and whether an appointment is suitable for your circumstances. A request for contact does not reserve an appointment or require you to book.
We currently pass enquiries to one referral partner clinic. We are paid/related to that partner as follows: [disclosure: placeholder].
3. Have a real-time consult with a registered doctor
If you decide to book, the consult may be real-time telehealth or in person, subject to the clinic’s arrangements and the doctor’s assessment of what is appropriate. Ask the clinic which format it offers and what you need for the appointment. A contact form or an exchange of enquiry details is not itself a consult. Health information belongs in your discussion with the clinician, not in this website’s form.
4. The doctor decides what is appropriate
The appointment provides an opportunity to ask about treatment options a doctor may discuss, including lifestyle, nutrition and medical options. Those options are considered in the context of your health, rather than selected by this website. The doctor decides what is appropriate for you, and a consult does not guarantee any prescription. Ask the doctor to explain why an option may or may not be appropriate, what follow-up would involve and what other health professionals might be involved.
5. Follow-up is set by the clinic, and you decide whether to continue
Follow-up arrangements are set by the clinic and the doctor. You decide whether to proceed after the discussion, and you can stop at any time. If you have started care, speak with your doctor about how to stop or change it safely. Stopping an enquiry or deciding against a further appointment does not remove charges for services already provided; ask the clinic for its terms before booking. You can seek care elsewhere or return to your own GP.
Can I see a doctor about weight loss online?
A real-time telehealth consult may be an option for discussing weight management in Australia. Whether it is available to you, and whether it is appropriate, depends on the service and your circumstances. Online contact does not mean that every assessment can be completed remotely. A doctor may decide that an examination, investigations or an in-person appointment is needed. Ask the clinic about its process and have a private space available if you book telehealth.
Who sees my details?
Your enquiry details are stored privately and passed to the referral partner with your consent. If you later choose, a service connected to that clinic may also receive details as explained in the collection notice. We do not sell your information. Read the Privacy Policy and the notice above the form before submitting, including the placeholder business and contact details. The full policy and commercial disclosure still need completion before launch.
How long does it take?
Contact and appointment timeframes are set by the partner clinic. We cannot confirm a response date or a waiting period on its behalf. Your preferred contact time is a preference, not a confirmed arrangement. Ask the clinic about current availability when it contacts you. Do not use the enquiry form for urgent concerns; see your GP or nearest emergency department, and call 000 in an emergency.
Contact and appointment timeframes: placeholder, to be confirmed by the partner clinic.
Can I use my own GP or pharmacy?
Yes. Your regular GP remains an option for a weight and health discussion, and you can choose your own pharmacy. You are not required to use a particular pharmacy because you enquired through this website. Ask the doctor how information can be shared with your usual GP if you want coordinated care, and ask your chosen pharmacy directly about its services and charges.
